Landscaping for a new addition in Philadelphia’s Main Line Suburbs Winner of Excellence in Landscape Design Award from the Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association, 2004 The homeowners tripled the size of their home with a new addition, significantly changing the footprint while greatly disrupting the property. As a family with two young children, they needed play space and family gathering areas. The couple enjoys entertaining and therefore wanted a landscape that could be a showplace and accommodate large gatherings. They also wished to retain a favorite Dogwood tree in the front yard and somehow capture the feel of a flowing stream without the expense of a water installation. As the landscape firm, we wished to meet the client’s range of needs with a unified design. While complementing the home, the landscape also had to soften it, as the addition had created a large white expanse to serve as our backdrop, and use stone features to effect the flowing feel of a stream. Plus we addressed drainage issues, as the construction had left the flow of water in the back moving toward the house. The client has enjoyed the landscape thoroughly, whether waiting on the decorative front bench for a child to return from school or entertaining guests for a catered affair on the back patio. |
